Foster City: Suspects arrested in attempted robbery at Edgewater Place Shopping Center
FOSTER CITY — A 21-year-old Belmont man and a 17-year-old Foster City boy have been arrested in connection with the attempted robbery of a woman last month at the Edgewater Place Shopping Center.
The attempted robbery was reported around 12:40 p.m. on Jan. 29 at the shopping center in the 900 block of Edgewater Boulevard.
The female victim told Foster City police she had been sitting in her parked vehicle when a male suspect approached her window and demanded her property. When she didn’t immediately comply, he pointed a handgun at her and demanded her property again. The victim screamed and the suspect fled in a waiting vehicle, according to police.
Police identified two suspects in the case as Jason Mateo, 21, of Belmont, and a 17-year-old Foster City boy.
On Jan. 30, police located the getaway vehicle and seized it as evidence. Detectives obtained a search warrant and found the firearm used in the alleged crime, according to police.
The 17-year-old suspect was arrested Feb. 1 and Mateo on Feb. 3. The former was booked into the Youth Services Center in San Mateo on charges of attempted robbery and conspiracy and the latter into the Maguire Correctional Center in Redwood City on charges of attempted robbery, conspiracy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
